POST-PARTUM MENSTRUAL PERIOD

Happy New Month! July is finally here!!! I pray that the Lord Almighty will grant you your perfect heart desires this month and
always.

I got a phone call from a friend of mine a couple of days ago and she had wanted to know my opinion on an issue. She said she was currently at 10 months post-partum and her menstrual period was yet to return. My first thought was Breastfeeding! But i thought wrong, she said she weaned her baby four months ago. I had to think really well in order to give her a reasonable and convincing answer.

One of the great things about pregnancy is the nine or more months free from menstrual period. But as soon as the baby comes, Aunt Flo comes knocking and says "Hello friend, I'm baacckkk!!!! There are a few things one should know about post-partum period and when to expect it.

1). Your period could come back heavier or lighter, with more or less cramps.

2). If you are breastfeeding, your period will likely take a longer time, probably a couple of months to return especially if on exclusive breastfeeding.

3). If you are not breastfeeding or you are exclusively formula feeding it takes about 3-10 weeks for your period to return.

4). If you are supplementing breastfeeding with formula feeding, your period may return as early as 3 months post partum.

5). Six months (6) after weaning baby and your period is yet to return, it is advised that you book an appointment to see your doctor.

So,i told my friend to hold on for another 2-3 months. If Aunt Flo does not come knocking then she can pay her doctor a visit. Hopefully, there won't be any need for that.

Note that your health and lifestyle plays a major role as well. So eat healthy (balanced diet, fruits and veggies) ,drink lots of water (about 8 glasses a day) and rest adequately.

Women are super awesome, the way our body has been designed by God to work is beyond amazing. Women, learn to love and appreciate each other. We are blessed!!!!
